Alana Richardson

Bass player with the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra and Education Programs Manager with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra's nationally recognized education program, Alana is an important emerging artist and educator in Tucson's music scene.

While we dearly love her, we want her to go away next summer on a tour with the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra to South Africa.

Please consider making a tax-deductible charitable contribution here to support Alana's tour of South Africa. 100% of your donation will go to this talented, brilliant artist.

Some more fun things about Alana Richardson:

A graduate of Kalamazoo College, Alana earned her Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies and Music and studied abroad at Beijing Language and Culture University.  Alana has played the double bass for 20 years and has been an active member of community orchestras throughout her life – Principal Bassist of the Kalamazoo Philharmonia (Kalamazoo, MI) and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra (Boston, MA), and Assistant Principal Bassist of the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra (AZ). Alana’s most rewarding roles have involved sharing her love of music with others:

  • Therapeutic bass performer for elderly woman with dementia and her family

  • Teaching Assistant for Instrumental Methods string class

  • Private music and Mandarin tutor

  • TSO’s Education Programs Manager

Additionally, she continually seeks out opportunities to connect with both local and international communities through music, such as:

  • Europe tour with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp International Youth String Orchestra

  • Onstage at Symphony program with the Boston Symphony

  • Gramado In Concert International Music Festival (Brazil) with Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra of Rio Grande do Norte

  • String quintet chamber group with local Tucson musicians

  • [And NEXT] South Africa tour with the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra!
